How can I tell if the transmission on my dryer is bad? it has some play on it, My belt was not turning and ir melted the water pump was turning because that is where it got stuck I can tell because of the black residue on the pully, however ther is nothing on the transmission pulley. Does that mean my transmission is bad?

Please post a model number and someone should be able to help you. Also is this a dryer as you posted or a washer?

In the meantime see if the transmission pulley will turn in either direction by hand. Post the results when you post your model number.
