A buddy gave me a washer that he had no problem with its old but works. I take it home and all it does is fill up and does not got to the next cycle. The reason for using this washer is the last one i had which was only 6 yrs old did the same. Fill up and not a go to the next step of washing the clothes. Can someone please give me some help. I thought it was a bad timer so I ordered a new one and it did the same.

I would start by checking the lid switch. This is a common failure. If it checks out OK, I would check the water level switch.
The water level switch itself rarely fails, but it is controlled by water pressure as the tub fills. The thing to look for is a clog or other restriction in the air tube that goes from the tub to the switch, and the air dome at the bottom right of the tub.
