I have a maytag performa brand washer and I've never had this problem. You literally have to listen closely to it or else it will cut off and wont start back up for about one hour. After filling it with clothes and the water fills the tub,it will make a buzzing sound and you have to run in the laundry room really quick and open and close the lid until it catches and starts up. Well it washes the clothes and then it goes to the spin mode and again you have to jump up while it's making a buzzing sound and open and close the lid until it catches and starts up again. You have to do this every single cycle until it's done washing. Can someone please tell me what is wrong with my washing machine? Other than this problem I have no complaints.

I would start by checking the lid switch, since opening and closing the lid activates it.
