As I started the washed, it filled fine. As soon as it tried to agitate, there was a terrible grinding sound, and nothing was moving. After getting under the body, I found a belt torn up underneath. When I try and turn the silver clutch assembly (?), it catches and will not turn. Please help.

The parts diagram show that this is a direct drive Whirlpool that does not have a belt. You may have found the remains of the coupling, and other remains of it may have jammed things up.

Here is a video that will show you how to check things.
