I've got a Maytag performa and haven't had any problems till now. I swapped out loads and when I went to start the next load it filled with water and then that was it. I tried to go through all the cycles and nothing happens. I can hear what sounds like the motor trying to work and it seems as if the lid switch is ok cause the motor sound stops when it is depressed. Could it be the timer, lid switch or something major? Thanks for any advice.

You could check for something stuck in the pump. If the motor overheats and shuts down, that would confirm it.
