This washer makes an awful noisy during agitation and spin cycle. It will sometimes come to a screeching halt at the end of the spin cycle.
There was a small leak, but I think that was because the pump hose didn't have the clamp on it in the correct spot.
The agitator does not move by hand while it is stopped. I believe it should.
The pump bearing and plate assembly turns easily enough. But it does rub 3/4 of the way around. It also has black powder on it, possibly from the rubbing?
I like the size of the tub on this machine and the extra rinse. I hope it can be fixed, without too much expense.

Well I cannot get your exact model number to come up, but with these models Maytag has had a lot of transmission problems, and they have built a new high torque transmission for them.
I think the problem could be in your brakes, but whatever the problem I do not think repairing it is worth the cost and effort. There are good prices on new machines that should be comparable in size and features to your model, and a lot more reliable, so I would suggest you take the money you would have spent on a repair and use it towards a new machine. You will be poorer in the short term but much happier in the long term.
