I have an amana top load washer and it started to smoke. I felt it was the belt and although the belt was broken, I do not believe that was the entire problem. I replaced it and the maching will agitate, but not spin. I am guessing it wasn't spinning before the belt broke and it only broke because it got hot. Do you know what the problem could be.

The problem could be a bad brakes or a bad transmission. You can perform the troubleshooting as described in the Service manual. Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana washer Model ALW480DAWGene.

It certainly sounds like it, at least... Any input would be good :)
