my washer fills, agitates, and drains, but does'nt spin. The motor runs on spin and the belt turns the pulley and main shaft underneath. I took the agitater and inner basket out to see if anything was stuck--nothing. Then watched to see if top of shaft would spin, but still nothing. ------ Could the tranny be shot or the plastic sleeve on the bottom of the shaft be worn out & not lifting the shaft high enough to engage? any help would be appreciated thanks

If you have a bad snubber, you will see white, plastic shavings on the bottom of the washer. If so, you can get info on it in my article "Maytag Performa washer snubber replacement" Remember, you do not need to pull the pulley out, or use the expensive brake release tool.
