Our kenmore washer has been making a grinding/thumping noise during the wash cycle. Clothes are also getting wrapped around the agitator, and the problem is worse with larger loads. Tried replacing the dogs and the coupling, but neither helped. Any suggestions? We were thinking the transmission or maybe the block basket drive. Thanks for any suggestions!

Well darn. On the noise it is difficult to say much with any intelligence since we really need to be there to hear the type and location, and well, we are not. I would operate the machine with the cabinet off (by-pass the lid switch) and see if you can tell where the grinding is coming from. My guess is the transmission or the brakes, but it could be the pump.

On the agitator problem, I can only suggest you pull it off and reseat it. It may not have gotten seated correctly from when you checked the dogs.
