Washer operates normally except it will not spin. Washer has seemed to go out of balance more than normal in the last few months.
I pulled the brake on the bottom of the machine and it appears ok. Checked the rotation on the motor and it goed one way for agitate and the other way for the spin cycle as it should.
My wife heard a noise before the machine quit spinning but I can not identify if this is related or when it may have come from.
I see the breakdown of the machine and it shown a snubber in the brake mechanism. I did not see this when I took the brake apart. Should there be one?
If I rotate the drive pully on the agitator it move the agitator. If I turn it the other way the agitator does not move. Does this indiicate anything?
Thanks for your thoughts

When you turn it in one direction it is supposed to agitate and lock the tub in place so the clothes won't get tangled. The water remains in the washer because the pump is going backwards. When the spin mode happens then the motor turns in the opposite direction so the pump gets to remove the water, the main drive pulley releases the brake, and the drum turns freely gradually getting up to full speed. So what can go wrong? The thrust washer will wear down and won't allow the brake to be released. The tub will remain locked down and the water will pump out, the clothes will be a soggy mess. Replacing the thrust washer is tricky. Make sure everything goes back on in the order it came off. Have hercules standing by to help you get the clip back on the bottom. LOL Or use a long screw driver to help you get leveredge enough to get that clip on. The kit comes with a new main drive pulley and cam, and extra washers. When you get it all back on if the drum is not locked down you have too many washers. If the drum won't release you don't have enough washers. Directions come with the kit and are purposely vague.
