I would start by checking for a broken lid switch...or is the motor running?? If so check for a bad/broken/oil covered belt...

Thanks, I checked the lid switch with an ohm meter. It is opening and closing okay. I removed the back cover, turned the machine on. The motor briefly started humming, I smelled something get hot and then the motor quite humming. The motor pulley and belt moved freely by hand. Where do I look now?
