Hi, I have an Amana LWA40AW2 washer, it fills fine when the macine starts to agitatae the motor will kick in and start to turn the drum and shut off in a few seconds and start again and run a few seconds & shut off. If I run the spin cycle the motor starts slowly and will run the complete cycle. The transmission seems to be working ok, possibly a motor? Thanks for your help

This is a very difficult machine to work on. It's labor-intensive just to replace the belt. You have to pull the pump off to remove the belt. My recommendation is that you remove the belt and see if the motor will operate in the agitate direction, without a load on it. If it will, it's probably OK.

I repaired the pump & replaced the belt a couple of months ago. The motor will start to move the drum in the agitate direction then click off pause a min. or two restart and do the same.

From this description, I would suspect a bad motor.
