Model Number: LSQ8243HQ0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
My mother has the above washer and it shakes like crazy on the spin cycle. The shaking is so bad it bangs against the wall, the dryer and even walks out of place as far as the drain hose will allow. It's obviously out of balance but I can find no reason for it. I checked inside and all of the damper springs (or whatever they are called) are in place. There's nothing stuck under the agitator and I even tried to see if there's something between the basked and the outer bowl, but there's nothing there. Any idea what the fix is?

Remove the outer panel and inspect the skateboard under the tub, check both sides, might be out of place. Also, pry up the tub and check the brown plastic slides, might be missing or worn. Also, make sure all four feet are touching the floor.

The movable triangular metal frame under the tub is the skateboard, might be out of place on one side. The three, brown plastic slides clip on to the top of it.

OK, thanks. Took it apart and can't see anthing obvious. The slides look to be in place and in decent shape. The frame seems centered to the tub and it doesn't slide far enough aside that anything contacts. There's no banging noises when it shakes, just a whole lotta shaking going on. I'm wondering if the laminate floor (which I think is installed over some kind of felt) might be part of the problem?

A lot of these direct drive washers shake from brake shoes that are not evenly releasing, and the floor may not help. Other things to check are, a loose spin basket, half busted comb filter under it, or a leaky, plastic stabilizer on top of the basket.
You can screw a piece of thick plywood to the floor to help, or add a 6 inch spring to the back spring (AP4459650). Best to add the spring as a weak, or broken spring there will cause a flood!! Add some grease to the back spring frame hole to prevent it from wearing a slot in the hole.
