I have a Roper Washer RAX4232RQ4. Last night during a cycle I heard a whinning sound and knew an appliance had just gone up. I recognized this sound from witnessing the belt on a motor snap in the past and since the dryer it can with is belt driven I figured the washer was too. However upon check the washer an hour later it was discovered that the washer was stuck mid cycle with a full load of water and clothes. I tried to get the pump to run by putting it on spin, nothing. Upon turning the Washer onI hear a humming and faint ticking like something is trying to click over. I found a post on fixya that claims this is a direct drive coupling device, not belt. I know they sound very similar when they break and I could smell burnt rubber last night.

I need to first find how to override the pump and drian the machine. Then I need to know what I should check first and how to do so. Please help. I can barely afford a new coupling if that's the case and up the river without a paddle when it comes to buying a new Washer.

This is what the motor coupling looks like. The pump is directly attached to the motor; so, even if the coupler completely disintegrates (which they often do), the pump will still pump out the water, as long as the motor runs.

Try the spin in every wash cycle, to eliminate the timer as suspect.

A quick way to drain your machine (and a tad LESS messy) is to get a large pitcher or pan, and remove the drain hose from the stand pipe at the wall. As soon as the end of the drain hose is below the level of the water in the tub, the water will siphon out. Just lift it above the water level to empty the container you're draining into.

If the machine drains in another wash cycle, the problem is in the timer. If not, you may have another drive component problem. If you have the patience to go step by step, we can help you. Let us know what you find.

Same results in every cycle. Very slowly draining into a mop bucket. In an hour I am going to disconnect the pump and isolate it into a small container. Should be able to stop the flow with my bare hand when in gets that low considering what i see coming out now. What should I try next?

Tell us if you know how to open the cabinet. Doing so enables you to service the machine, as the entire cabinet (3/4 around the front) will come off as a unit.

The cabinet is off and I have direct access to all controls. I am making the door switch by hand to test everything right now. Got the washer empty, same results for spin and drain on all cycles. Was able to confirm it does still fill.

Does it agitate?

No agitating. But the agitator does move freely.

You may just have a bad lid switch.

I just tried to jump it out. Nothing but the humming. Is there an overload thermal safety in this because the jumper got hot and the machine shut off. Should I check the motor coupling?

I was looking the parts list, where would the siphon break kit be inserted to drain the machine from a full fill?

It seems like something is jamming the motor. It tries to spin then seems to get stuck. Upon no power it goes back to the start position.

So I took the motor off and on try two it started spinning again. Put the pump on it out of curiosity and the pump has seized for some reason resulting in a stuck motor. Going to try a clean out or is it wise to simply order a new pump?
