Can the filter in the tub be cleaned? If not , how would one get to it and replace the filter. Also , would this filter cause the clean light to stay on after a cleaning?

Here is a manual. Although it does not list your unit, yours should be a close match.

Looking at the operators manual at the Maytag site it looks like the Clean light just comes on after 45 wash cycles and does not really monitor anything in the unit. From what I can see running the recommended clean cycle should turn it off.
