Model Number: lsq9600lw0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
All of the sudden a loud humming noise is coming from the machine. Sounds like a motor is stuck or something. Are there belts on this model that could have broken and need to be replaced? I checked the inlet screens for blockage and the drain pipe (figured I would try the easy stuff first) but no luck. The machine is still filling fine but I think its something wrong with the spin cycle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So I tipped over the washer to gain access to the pump and coupler and they both seem fine. I can spin the internal pump (thingy) which in turn rotated the coupler. I couldn't find anything restricting the flow of water either. After I uprighted the machine I turned it on and It was making the same noise; a loud grind/squealing noise that sounds as if its something that rotates. It only happens during the spin cycle and the machine continues to fill and drain fine.

Pull off the control panel screws, tilt it back and remove the lid switch plug and the top panel clips. Then take off the outer cover, remove the pump and motor.
Turn the coupler clockwise until the spin basket starts to turn. If very hard to turn it further, you either have something obstruction in the tub, of bad brake shoes.

Your panel screws are in the back on each side, just unscrew both pull forward and tilt panel back.
I would advise to fix this soon, I have seen too many burnt motors from this kind of failure!
