Model Number: LA5558XSWO Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Okay, I got the spanner nut off. ..found a little trick to doing it that helped tremendously. I also loosened the springs, brackets, and hose etc. on bottom so the outer tub SHOULD come off. Anything else I should do from underneath?
Now I'm trying to get the inner tub out and it doesn't want to come out. Ads By Google Related Models |

still trying to separate inner tub. Tried to do it with spanner nut both on and off. Have sprayed, pried, pounded, twisted, pushed, pulled, kicked, cussed, and begged.
Did I forget something? |

I tried with spanner nut on, nothing. Sprayed liguid wrench & went to bed. this morning pushed & pulled in all directions & it came off. I guess you have to let that spray do it's job...the drive block is rusted halfway off along the bottom where it flanges out, will replace that too. Now to get the drive block "lock" off. I'm almost there. Tonight I bake homemade bread and tell the woman who wouldn't let her husband help me that I did it myself.

Turns out the drive block does NOT have a lock on it (shown in diagram). I sprayed. pounded and pried, but it split in half, mainly cause it was so rusted along the bottom. So now I wait for another part. It took 10 days for one company to send me a tub seal which turned out to be an "O" ring. ($5 + s&h). --in a big box. 5 days later I got the right part. So I cleaned everything else up and put the seal on and the tubs back in and am just waiting for thet drive block. Hope it's the right one. Most of these parts are universal (at least the older machines, yeah!).
Just try telling that to the person who answers the phone. How do you know how old the appliances are? There is nothing on them that I can tell. Last edited by LikesToFixIt : 11-23-2008 at 02:38 AM. Reason: part is not motor block, it's drive block |

Post your serial number and I'll try to look it up for you.
If you ordered from here you should have the part within a couple of days. Nat
