My Maytag washing machine is 27 years old. I have never had a problem with it at all until my son over loaded it and a sock got stuck at the top between barrel and skirt thing. The belt smelled and burnt so I replaced that, but it still wont spin while on spin cycle. When the spin cyclecomes, the motor starts to work and pump the water out but then sounds like it's clicking on and off about 8 to 10 times and then just stops working and everything turns off except the main selector switch is still hummiong like a timer is going. Then I tried to take the motor out thinking I would take it down and have it tested and I cannot get the set screw loosened from the shaft of the motor. I even tried my 18 volt dewalt impact. Anyone have any thoughts?

You need to pull the top off the tub and pull the sock out. If it's in the bottom of the tub, use a coat hanger to fish it out. Take apart info for this dependable care washer at www.applianceaid.com To take the set screw out, if there is a visible flat on the motor, put an adjustable wrench on that and a pipe wrench on the pulley, just turn the pulley back and forth till it breaks loose.
