Model Number: WTW6400SW2 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
I have a 3 yr old Whirlpool Cabrio that is making a lot of noise during the spin cycle. The local Whirlpool dealer sent a tech out. He said it was the bearings in the motor that would need replacing at $350 for the part and at least $200 for the labor. He is trying to sell us a new washer. Which motor do I need. Parts tech sent me a link to the rotor and the stator motor. I thought it would look like a regular electric motor. Please advise.

Here is the service manual for this machine
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Servic...LE/8178582.pdf but I have to tell you in my opinion you are better off replacing it with a basic top loader. The new machines are being heavily discounted, and they will do just as good a job washing your clothes. I think the Cabrio added a lot of complex technology without adding to the ability to clean the laundry.

I dont see the bearing listed as a part of the stator or the rotor. Is there a bearing, if not what is the making the screaming noise when the machine spins out.

Noises are extremely difficult to diagnose without being there to hear the type of noise and its approximate location. Again, although I am strongly in favor of repair, for this model I can only advise you again to replace the machine

I had a problem with my cabrio washer squealing and humming, ended up being loose change in the pump. if your up to it pull the back off and unhook the rubber 90* that connects to the pump on the left, then stick your finger in there and feel around for some change. i have had to do this more than a couple times. just my $.02
