Now that I know repairing my Maytag Atlantis will take some time, what would be a good used washer to buy as a back up? I heard the GE's are junk....

If it were me I would purchase a good used Whirlpool/Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) Roper or Estate direct drive top loader. Avoid anything with electronic controls. All you need is a three dial (timer, water level, water temp) model.

And if possible get it from someone you can trust.
Also make sure you see it run (fill, agitate and spin)

I sent a customer to Lowe's and he found a Roper for $320. He asked about a scratch and dent one and he got it for $150, all with free delivery!! For those kind of deals, it's not worth it to get a used one!
