Maytag washer LAT5916AAE started leaking during the main cycle. It can be seen on the picture, you can even see the water drop. What to do? No leaking during pumping water in and out.

Related question: the wife is lobbying for buying new washer, rather than repairing this one, with arguments like "new washer will be saving the energy, will wash better, etc.". Does she have a point? is the expectation that today's model will be noticeably better in some aspects, reasonable?
