Model Number: FEX831FS2 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 1 - 5 years
Hi, here's the problem. My girlfriend's washer started gushing water out of the bottom a few months ago. I've finally gotten around to trying to fix it, and just replaced the tub seal, which fixed the leak. Now, the washer fills up, agitates, and drains fine, but will not spin. The pump runs while it's trying to spin, but the basket will not spin. When it is in spin cycle, the motor runs, but the belt does not turn. I have also noticed that I can rotate the pulley (and the belt along with it) in one direction (clockwise I believe), but I cannot rotate it in the other direction at all by hand. So my question is: does this mean it needs a new transmission, or or is there another part between the pulley and the transmission that could be replaced. My guess is that the water leaking out of the bottom rusted something and that's why it doesn't work, but it is strange that the transmission works in one direction but not the other. One more note: I'm pretty sure it's not the lid switch that's broken, because the motor does work in the spin cycle; it just won't turn the belt. Thanks for any help that can be given! -Tom Ads By Google Related Models |

Thanks so much for your help Gene. Is there any sort of coupler between the pulley and the transmission that could be replaced? I'm tempted to just get a new washing machine given how much the transmission costs, especially since I'm not 100% sure that would fix it.
