My washing machine stopped working mid cycle. It filled with water and agitates, but won't drain or spin. It makes a clicky noise for a few seconds and then goes silent. I tried different washer settings and the same thing happens. I am somewhat handy and would really like to avoid calling a repair-man. Please, can you help?

Sounds to me like you have a lid switch problem. If you want, remove the 2 phillip head screws that hold the lid switch in place,, cut the 2 wires to it, and splice them together, and see if it drains. If so, buy a new switch, and splice it in.
