When I start the dishwasher it drains water and then fills back up. After the dishwasher fills up with water it stops. The knob on the front continues to go around and eventually gets to the drying stage where it start to smell like burnt plastic. I can hear a faint humming sound when I am looking under the dishwasher. I have checked the hoses and could not find any blockages.

Pull out the lower spray arm and the filter. Remove the volute cover (#10 on the break down diagram) and check for a foreign objects inside.

If there is nothing wrong then the pump motor has to be replaced. You have to remove the dishwasher from the cabinet to access the motor. Turn the dishwasher on it's side and replace the motor. Do not remove the pump from the dishwasher because it could be a real problem to put it back due to warped tub.
