Question How do I remove large timer knob w/o breaking it?
Model Number: 417.39012890   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a frigidaire front load washer and matching dryer that you can stack.
I bought them I believe in 1999. Model # to dryer is 417.49012890.
We had a house fire and the fronts were smoke damaged,so I would like to remove all the knobs to clean and polish them. This would also allow me to be able to remove the panel faces to clean them. I have removed some of the smaller knobs on the washer w/o any problem.I cannot figure out how to remove the large timer knobs on either the washer or dryer. Can you help me do this so I do not break them, they are expensive i see on your site.I would also like to know what method you remove the smaller knobs just to know for future ref.
Could you also suggest anyway to clean the stain that the black soot leaves on the white knobs, turns them like a yellowish color like cigarette smoke leaves.
I had to replace the shocks and the main motor on the washer after refurbishing the washer after the fire, and i bought the parts on your web site, and it works great. The water from the fire ruined the motor bearings.
And one more thing, can you say what type of white grease is used on the dryer drum center bearing. It has a large steel ball mounted in a nylon cup. Thanks so much for your time and help in this matter, signed mike beaulieu

You should be able to push the washer knob in and turn counter clockwise to unscrew it from the shaft, and I believe the dryer is the same way.
You can use white lithium on the bearing, it is a high temp grease.
Not to sure about getting the yellow off, you could try citric acid or Mr Clean magic eraser, those 2 products are probably your best bet.
