Default Maytag LSE1000 Series 11 - wont spin
Model Number: LSE1000 Series 11   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

Hello,

re: Maytag Series 11 Stacked Washer/Dryer - Washer won't spin.

I have a Maytag LSE1000 washing machine that will not spin. However, it still agitates. I also notice a whining sound and slight burning smell on the spin cycle (which no longer rotates anything).

Any suggestions?

thanks,
John

It sounds like the brake isn't releasing. You can check this by removing the ront panel and watching it as it goes into spin. The whining sound and the burning smell are probably the belt trying to spin against the non-releasing brake. Let us know what you see.

I've opened the cover and noted that the motor rotates during spin cycle; however something is making a whistling/whining sound; and the tub does not spin.

During the spin cycle, I can see that one smaller pulley is moving the water pump, however, I'm not able to get down far enough to see whether the other larger pulley which rotates the tub is spinning - I suspect it is as the same motor is able to drive the water pump. With the power disconnected, if I move the gear associated with the larger pulley, I note that it does turn freely.

If the brake is not releasing, what would need to be done? Also, could there be something else that may be defective?

thanks,
John

Here's a parts breakdown of the brake and related parts. The brake assembly is part #5. To efficiently work on the brake (removal/replacement), it is best to have the tool, part #18. There may be some adjustment, but I have found that this is minimal, in most cases.

I have a manual; not for your exact model, but it works for the general design of the washer transmission and drive components. It is in PDF, but it is too large to post. Let me know if you want it, and I will email it to you.

magician59, Yes, please email to me at <emailposted>
It looks like quite a bit of dismantling to get to that component; and I'm concerned whether I may have a transmission issue (how to diagnose ?)

Thanks,
John
