Washer out-of-balance during spin

Model Number: fwtr647ghs0 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 1 - 5 years

The washer makes a thumping / banging noise whenever the drum has to spin quickly, like during a spin cycle. Fortunately, the washer is stable and does not hop around when it makes the noise.

Previous posts point to sticky brakes, but this drum spins freely in the off-mode. The manual says to re-balance the load, but this does not stop the noise. The noise persists after 4 loads of various laundry types.

Any suggested places to start looking?
