Thanks Gene,
The washer is making a loud grinding noise when washing. I have disassembled it down to the spinner support. I removed the clutch last night and the needle bearings are bone dry, but may be able to be saved with cleaning and greasing (I hope). I think the problem may be the spinner bearings. |

I'm having trouble removing the six spinner bolts inside the tub. I soaked them in PB Blaster for a couple days now and tryed to remove with a 18volt electric impact to no avail. I can use an air impact, but fear breaking off the bolt heads in the spinner. I really don't want to buy a new spinner assembly if I can replace just the bearings...Any suggestions you might have would be greatly valued

Yes I broke one of the Six Spinner support bolts off on a FAV6800A Tub Seal & Outer Tub bearing replacement I did several months ago.
I took the Spinner Support to a local Amish machine shop here in Southeast PA and had a Stainless Steel Heli coil insert put in. I have info on the Caged needle bearing (INA SCE-910) lower end of the Spinner Support and the upper 6002-DU bearing…you can use a 6002-2RS. If you think that is where the grinding noise is coming from and not the tranny. They were straight forward to punch out and press in. I’m no expert just an owner but if I can help let me know. I’ll post some picks of them a bit blurry and some picks of the bearings installed from a new Spinner Support assembly I picked up real cheap new in the box....$40. The bearings are a cheaper replacement if that is the issue. If your Clutch One-Way Roller bearing can be cleaned up and Lock Up Solid in the CCW/Spin Direction then you should be OK you can try the little test I recommend in this post Maytag Neptune load unbalance. Good Luck………..Dick Last edited by dh1200s : 11-10-2010 at 11:37 AM. |

If you do get the Spinner Support Out I’m sure you are going to replace the Tub Seal and Tranny O-Ring. When you pull the Spinner support out you more than likely will have this sleeve from the Tub Seal remain on the Spinner Support shaft. Make sure you pry that off. 1st pic has drill bit pointing to it. Next pics show it clearly on the Spinner Support shaft. Just curious what are the 1st two digits of the machine S/N? Good Luck........Dick Last edited by dh1200s : 11-10-2010 at 11:24 AM. |

I thought I had six Spinner bolts. Yea you may snap one or more off. I started off with a 3/8" Air Impact a no go. Moved up to my 1/2" air impact and that worked sort of......
Soaking with PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench did nothing for me. I replaced all with SS Heli Coil inserts but you can just do what you snap off if the cost is resonable.........Dick Last edited by dh1200s : 11-10-2010 at 11:41 AM. |

Dick,
Thanks for all the great pics and advice. I will be working on it tonight, so I'll let you know how it goes. I have read a lot of discontent about this machine, however our only issue until now was the latch corrosion problem which we learned to work around. Not in the mood to go buy a new washer right now ($$$), so going to try to fix it. So far pretty straight forward and easy to work on (except the pesky spinner bolts |
