My Amana lw8303l2 one belt style washer spins while in the agitate mode and sloshes water out when washing large loads. I read some post that said to replace the brake pads but they look ok, my question is about the brake disc.. is it supposed to have a lining on it or do the pads get squeezed in between the bare metal disc?

Yes they get squeezed by the metal disks. If there is very much missing from the pads, they will slip. They should be the same thickness all the way through. Its also possible that the disks aren't closing tight on the pads.
