My washing machine will fill but will not start washing. I checked the lid to make sure it seats correctly and it does. Any ideas on what it may be? I don't know if it is the timer mechanism or what? One other thing, how do you take off the top console panel to get to the control panel to access the timer, if needed?

Probably not the timer. You need to start by by-passing the lid switch. This link will show you how.
