bought used washer and dont know how long it sat not being used but my first time it overflowed and dident go into wash cycle.

If you had to shut the water off behind the washer, you need a water valve. That is the part that the hoses connect to. If you just hit the timer to cut the water off, you then either have a bad water level switch, which is located on the control panel. But, take a look at the water level switch, and you will see a clear plastic hose, that should hook up to it. If it is on, then follow the hose underneath the washer. Pull the washer away from the wall, and lean it back. It should hook up to the the tub on the right side. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
