washer performs all functions (fill, empties, spins etc) except the agitator doesn't work. seems that the bolt/nut in the middle is moving, but not the agitator itself. tried to loosen the nut but it moves w/ the bolt - can't loosen of tighten.

any help? this is a belt drive w/ a one-piece "sugrilator" agitator.

Tilt the washer forward and remove the back panel. With one hand turn the belt, with the other hand, lift up on the inner solenoid plunger till the tranny slide shifts the tranny into agitate mode. Now, you should be able to take the agitator bolt off.

thanks for the reply! i didn't do exactly what you said, but i let the machine fill w/a small load of water, got it to agitate mode. the 'nut & bolt' on top of the agitator moved swiftly back and forth. stopped the washer, then tried to loosen the nut. while it gave more resistance than before, it still turned the whole nut/bolt assembly. i tried some wd40 for a couple of hours and even put vice grips on the bolt (yes, hell on the threads). still won't move.

any other suggestions?

You run the risk of sheering off the stud if you put too much toque on it. I would bust off the agitator with a wood chisel, then put WD-40 on the exposed stud threads, then torque it back and forth till it comes loose.
