Default Maytag washer
Model Number: LA8840   Brand: Maytag   Age: More than 10 years

Replaced both belts this morning, washer still intermittently not agitating, barely agitating or sometimes normal agitation occurs, once the washer is filled and ready to wash clothes. We currently have the front off of the washer and can see the shaft not moving, barely moving or normal movement in sync with the tub. Please advise, next move to repair.

Pull belt off the tranny pulley and turn the tranny pulley in agitate direction, if hard to turn, you need a tranny rebuild job. This tranny can be fixed, but usually by a Maytag expert.
