Twice in the last 2 months my washer has overfilled with water and flooded the floor. The water has a lot of lint-type stuff in it. As soon as we put the control knob on drain and spin it works fine! My husband thinks it was overloaded but it was not. It is a large capacity machine and all it had in it was a set of regular bed sheets and 2 pillow cases! Because of all of the lint in the water, is there a self-cleaning lint trap that back flooded causing it to continue filling with water? It is strange that it has happened twice with nothing unusual being done in operating it. Do you have any suggestions? We feel we must always be there to make sure it quits filling when it is supposed to! It happens only on the initial filling of water. The rinse cycles fill fine. Thanks for any help! :)

Check and see if the tube from the water level switch to the tub is blocked. Blow it out so that you are sure nothing is inside of it. Also check to see that the water shuts off when you disengage the machine timer.
If this does not help post your model number and what you learned so we can tell exactly which machine you have.
