Model Number: GHW9400PW0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
We've had no issues with our Duet in the 3 years we've had it (until now). On Saturday we had a short power outage during some heavy rain while the washer was running. We noticed that there was some water in it that night when we went to do another load, and realized the outage had done something to it. We get an F11 code (and some loud baby-awakening beeps) whenever we try to run any cycle.
Any idea what has been fried? We have a Whirlpool repairman coming out on Thursday, but I have a feeling (from reading other people's posts online) that we're going to get hit with some hefty charges for labor & parts if he decides to replace the ccu/mcu. I did drain out the water by taking the bottom cover off and removing the plug at the bottom (had a baby sock and some change in it) but that didn't change the error code. That would be something that I think that a factory authorized service tech shold check. It could be the CCU, wire harness, motor, or a couple of other things. No since in taking chances on getting the wrong part.

Yeah, I'll wait and see what the repair tech says. If they say it's the CCU that needs replaced then I'll see what they charge for the part. If I get a free hour tonight after the kids go to bed, I plan on taking the top off and doing the resistance checks on the CCU connectors that are described in the service manual for the Duets.
Are the wire harnesses known to go bad? I would think it would be one of the parts that never goes bad, unless they have a small guage wire in it that "melts" when hit with a surge. Thanks for the reply. |

You can check the connectors they get corrodid sometimes which causes problems.

A service tech just finished checking my washer and says the CCU is definitely the problem, and the MCU could be bad as well but he won't know until he replaces the CCU. Total cost of the replacment of the CCU would be $675 (with the part being $500)!
So can I order a CCU for much less than that? My Whirlpool DuetHT GHW9400PW0 is about 3 years old. |

Before you oder any part.... Unplug the unit, remove the top and the CCU is near the back of the machine, remove the connectors (carefully as they do tend to break) use a regular pencil eraser to clean the metal tabs. They have had issues of this which they went over in our last training session. hopefully that will take care of the issue.
I really hate to knock how others do business but $500 for that part is highway robbery! The Microcomputer(CCU) is only about $250 from here part # AP3779011. And the Motor control (MCU) is less that $150 from here part AP3861856 I realize, because we are in the business and that we have bills and have to make a living, but that to me is ridiculous to charge that much over for a part. Okay, I have removed the board and cleaned up the contacts (top and bottom) with an eraser, and the do look better, although some seem to have slight "bubbling" under the pads. I'm not sure if this is normal.
I hooked everything up and made sure I can turn on the washer and select settings. I'll wait til morning to give it a test though, since it is next to my 2 yr old's bedroom and if it still beeps with F11 I'm afraid it will wake her up! |

Understand that!! Let me know I'll be on most of the day tomorrow (or at least on & off)

Okay, I still get the F11. After the door locks I hear a little water being let in & then it errors out with F11. So I guess I should order the CCU and see if that fixes things for me, or should I step through the test program and see which stages give F11? If I just let the test program do it's thing, it F11's on C:02. But if I skip the C:02 stage it can go to the next stage (I skipped a few until it F11's again). I didn't play with that much since I didn't know what I was doing.
I've read about folks re-soldering their relays (or replacing them) or adding solder to the contacts so the wiring harness makes a better contact, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to give that a go. I suppose like everyone else I'm just nervous of ordering a $250 part to find out it's not the problem, but that's better than spending the $675 to have the repairman do the same thing. |

I would rather spend the 250 for the ccu and maybe the 150 for the mcu than the 675 your repair man was going to charge. still saving $ from the outragous markup they were going to charge.
