I bet it is the lid switch. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Ok, let me clarify here. When you say it does not advance, can you turn the timer to the spin cycle, and it will spin? But it won't go on it own? If so, you need a timer. If you turn on the washer, and it fills with water, and then does nothing after that, it is the lid switch. If so, you can take the 2 screws out holding the lid switch in place, and cut the 2 wires and wire them together, and see if it works. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Thanks again but the timer switch is brand new out of the box. It is possible that the new one is bad, stranger things have happened,I will try to exchange it at the parts store. Is there any thing else that would cause this problem lid switch is good i opened the lid while it was running and it stopped then i tested the switch with a pen and the machine started to run again.

Ok, the lid switch is good. Again, if you move the dial manually to spin , does it spin the water out? Also on some of the timers, there are 2 black wires coming from the timer motor, are they pluged in? Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Yes, all phases work in their respective positions but wont move forward. No black wires, only the wiring harness.

Normally on that condition, I would say the timer is the problem. You could have a bad timer, it is not uncomon. I would send back the timer, and get another. If it does the same thing, the only other thing it could be would be the water level switch. When the washer fills, the pressure switch tells thye water valve to stop, and then sends power to the motor to agitate, it is possible the circuit to the motor coming from the water level switch could be the problem. That is what I would do. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
