Model Number: 110.24622300 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
Here's what happened: I loaded the washer like usual. It filled with water and then started making a loud grinding noise and didn't agitate. I turned the dial to the spin cycle to drain the water. It drained alright, and the loud noise was still there, but it didn't spin. I took all the clothes out and turned on the spin cycle again, just to see what would happen. Same as before, I heard the loud noise but I noticed the agitator started turning, but very, very slowly. It's only 5 or 6 years old. I can't afford to replace the washer. I hope someone can help diagnose the problem so I can fix it. Thanks!!

It sounds to me like the big gear in your gearcase is chewed up. It would take a new one of these Part number: 3360629
to repair it. You might check on your warranty, its probably not under warranty, but check the back of your owner's manual. |

it could be the motor coupling. this goes between the motor and transmission. cheap fix. this is what was wrong with mine and it did the exact thing you described. the agitator moving was moving only because of the grinding was vibrating the agitator, if you would touch the agitator it would stop moving. i bought my motor coupling on ******** for 4 bucks and had my washer fixed in 3 days. easy way to tell is this is the problem unhook and drain washer turn it on the front side and look under the washer, if you see plastic pieces or a pile of rubber on the ground you know you have ur culprit. but you may not have these just inspect where the motor connects to the transmission and see if you see any broken plastic parts. i know this post is a late post but hope that it helps somone that may be looking to see what the problem may be.
