I just moved into a new house and have started having a problem with our washer.

When the outside sprinkler system turns on, and the water pressure in the house drops temporarily, water will begin to slowly fill the washing machine even though it is turn off. Up to a gallon of water and then it will stop.

Is this more of a problem with the valve on the washer failing or a result of the fluctuating water pressure in the house?

Thanks
