Default Kenmore washer won't spin, agitate, or go through cycles
Model Number: 110.24832   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

Here's my story. My Kenmore washer is just over 5 years old and wasn't spinning clothes dry enough - my wife needed to wring clothes out to put in dryer. For quite a while she has had (at times) to start the spin by hand. Yesterday i opened it up to check out the coupling. Coupling seemed to be fine, couldn't see any other problem so I put it back together.

Now it doesn't move through any cycles (e.g. it will fill with water until I manually move it to next cycle), it has little-to-no spin power (when I manually put it on spin and use a screwdriver to bypass the lid switch) and doesn't seem to be agitating at all. It does drain fine.

I am wondering if the timer is the issue with it not moving through cycles, but what's up with the agitator? I pulled the top part of the agitator off, but didn't know how to get the bottom part off and didn't know what I'd be looking for. Can u help?

Can you post your entire model number so we can look at the breakdown?

Your lid switch itself may be out, if so trying to activate with a screwdriver won't actually activate it. I would double check all the connections first.
A lot of the times when you can start the washer spinning by hand it's the clutch, which sets on the transmission. It gets rusty and starts sticking. Without actually seeing your washer that's my opinion.
Hope that helps

Thanks - that is helpful.

It doesn't seem to be advancing through cycles on its own. Does that sound like the timer? It's strange that that problem started after I worked on it (well, maybe not so strange, considering i am not a handy guy) - it was going through its cycles fine until yesterday. Sound like timer? Any other possibilities.

I think the lid switch is ok since I can get it to spin and drain by using a screwdriver.

Your "not advancing" sounds like somethings is not connected very well. The spin issue sounds like a clutch to me.

Just in case this is helpful to someone else, I checked my connections and found that I had crimped the water level tube when I reassembled the washer. When I fixed that, the washer went through its cycles correctly again. Now my only problem is the spin cycle not fully spinning clothes dry which is probably the clutch.

Thanks again for your help.

I think you may have the same problem that my brother had with his kenmore.

His wouldn't spin but it would agitate.

It turned or to be a bad rubber drive coupling.

Usually if it's a coupling the machine will not agitate either.

I checked the coupling and it looked ok. The washer is intermittently spinning fine now. Most times it is working ok and every now and then it doesn't spin the clothes dry. I am still leaning toward a new clutch.
