Model Number: LA7800XS Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
When selecting the gentle setting the washer will fill with water but will not cycle through. The spin cycle will not work. With the other settings the spin cycle works but my wife thinks the spin cycle even on these other settings isn't removing quite as much water as it previously did. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

Does the motor stop, and refuse to start again on these normal cycles. If so you probably have a bad timer.
Also, check the motor socket pins, push in the low speed wire pin and see if it now works, sometimes they become loose.

Thanks for the advice. No, the motor does not stop and refuse to start again in the normal cycles. I assume the motor socket pins are by the motor and that I need to remove the cabinet. Is that correct? I've tried to look at the schematics on repairave.com but can't locate the motor socket pins. Are they sometimes referred to by another name?

Thanks again for the help. I did go to the suggested website and searched but still could not find "motor socket pins". Are you referring to the electrical connections, wire leads? At the motor? At the timer? Would appreciate any additional help you or anyone else is willing to share. Thanks.

The connector is mounted on the side of the compressor. I usually test with power on, just push in on the pins, it will start up if that is your problem. For parts, just click on the appliancepartspros link above.
