My washing machine was fine the other day...then I tried to was a small load and the machine went kaput. The machine made it through the wash cycle, but it is unable to drain.

I remember the machine spining for a few seconds...then clicking or humming...then nothing...then it would repeat (20 or so times). When I heard that, I thought it was odd behavior.

I unplugged it and plugged it back in...still can't get it to drain. I thought I smelled something burning too.

I haven't yet taken it apart to see what is the problem.

Any ideas where I should start? or should I just buy new? I think the washer was around $400 when I got it.

Thanks.

I just tried to get the washer to drain again. With the door open, I turned the dial to spin and held down the door switch. The machine did nothing...but hummed.

Next, I did the same but turned the dial to wash...the machine agitated!

So...I now know the door switch works...and it appears that the motor works.

Side note...I used a bucket to get most of the water out. While doing so, I found a few small pieces of gum and a gum wrapper. Hmmmm.

What do I try next?

Thanks

Most likely the drain pump got stuck and has to be replaced. You have to remove the front cover to access the drain pump.

- The part number for the drain pump is AP3160348

Here are the break down diagrams for the Hotpoint washer Model VBXR1060T5WB
