Whirlpool Duet won't wash, won't drain - sometimes!

Thanks in advance for any help. At first it worked, no problem. Then it got finicky, maybe about the time the warranty expired, in January 2010. Now it is just undependable. Often it won't go on at all. Sometimes when it does go on, it washes but doesn't spin dry. We were told to hold the start button down longer; to hold the cancel for a long while to clear the memory; to unplug the machine also to clear memory; to take some of the clothes out and try spinning; to redistribute the load. It is just not reliable. Can you believe it! Remember the simple, turn-the-dial machines? Not wanting to jettison the $800.00 purchase, I really want to know if there is a fix or fixes. By the way, error messages do not appear. Thanks

Look under the top or inside the lower service panel and see if you can find the tech notes that will show you how to put it into a diagnosis mode.
If you cannot generate error codes, try checking the wiring between the door lock assembly and other components.
