Take off the front by inserting a screw driver in the gap between the top and the front near the edges to release the clips holding the front to the cabinet.

See if you can listen to where the noise is coming from, and if it is from inside the transmission/brake assembly the problem is like your transmission or brakes which is a substantial repair on this model. If this is the case you may want to consider a replacement machine.

If the noise is below the transmission assembly the problem may be in the pulley/belt/thrust bearing area, this part here.
