Kenomre Compacting problem

I have a Kenmore trash compactor model no. 665.13619101 that doesn't performt the extra pack function any longer. This happened one before, and I replace one of the switched on the front panel, and the extra pack started working again. A few months later the same problem came back. I checked the switch, and it looks fine. What happens when I hit extra pack, the compactor just cycles through a normal compact cycle, and no longer stops in the down position. Any suggestions?
