Trash Compactor Repair

My GE Monogram trash compacter was working fine until today.
I hit the start button and it appeared to be working fine. Heard it compress the trash but it never shut off. It just continues to run and makes a clicking sound.
I turned the switch off and tried to open the door but the door would not open.
Help!

I think I would start here. Some models call it a limit switch or off switch whatever. It is located behind the control panel close to the top. I would take the top of the compactor off and start it. If the ram comes back up and hits the switch and doesn't turn off the problem is probably in the switch. Check it for continunity.
