My 30 year old KitchenAid trash compactor has a broken belt. The belt broke just as the compactor was starting to compress so the drawer will not open. Found a replacement belt but am wondering if this is a DIY job or should be referred to an experienced repairman. Looks to me like the work will need to be done through the opening in the top of the appliance and I don't know how many parts need to be removed in order to install the replacement belt. Any help will be appreciated.

You have to remove the t/c from the cabinet, remove the top panel and find out what part(s) is bad. It could be the belt or the chain.

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid trash compactor Model KCS100B

Gene,
Replacement belt arrived and I installed it yesterday afternoon. Compactor works as well as before. $26. for the belt and your assistance saved me a service call and several hundred dollars over a replacement compactor. I had already decided I would not spend a lot of money on a 30 year old appliance. Thanks for your help.
