The black metal strip fell off the bottom of the compact and now when you lift up on the pedal it wont compact. Where does the piece go?

The metal strip on the bottom is coming in contact with a microswitch to allow the compactor to start, most likely the piece of plastic attached to the pull out drawer assembly has cracked.
