I have a GE profile that I believe has/had a bad defrost thermostat. I replaced the thermostat, but did not wire it in yet. I wanted to se it change state (ohms). My coils are iced over but the switch has not changed states yet. Does it need to be wired in to work correctly? Does it take a while to actuate? Any help would be appreciated. Defrost thermostat wr50x55. Thanks

Looking at the parts description it should close (0 ohms) at 35 degrees F and open (infinite ohms) at 55 degrees F.

No. I am assuming you are checking it with a meter.

Does it take a while to actuate?
Takes a little while so you will have to hold it on the ice till it gets down to freezing perhaps a couple minutes. Also do not touch the metal face when hold it on the ice.

Thanks for your help. I actually took it out and put it in a working freezer and it changed states. Installed and working correctly. Thanks for the help this site was extremely usefull.
