Default Side-by-Side Conquest won't cool
Model Number: GD25DIXH202   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

A couple of days ago I noticed a puddle of water in front of my Whirlpool refrigerator. Everything in the freezer was defrosted and the refrigerator was relatively warm. The lights work. I unplugged it, and let it sit with the doors open until today. I cleaned it and plugged it back in. I hear a fan running, but not the compressor. On a periodic basis I hear a click and then another one about 30-60 seconds later. This cycle repeats over and over. I sure hate to get rid of a pretty good refrigerator (especially since I just cleaned it :-)). Any ideas on where I should begin? - Pat

Hi Pat,

The first thing I would do is replace the start device for the compressor which comes with the complete installation instructions. If it would not help then the compressor itself is bad. In such case it has to be replaced by a certified technician.

The part number for the start device kit is AP3873993

I have a similar issue with a Whirlpool Conquest GD25DIXH502. The start relay was fried (for the second time). I replaced with a universal kit and compressor still did not start. I checked to ensure continuity on each of the three posts coming out of the compressor...minimal resistance across each of the posts. Compressor is very warm. I now hear a relay 'click' every 60 seconds or so but the compressor does not kick on. Fan in freezer and back are both running. Shouldn't I get infinite resistance between some posts on the compressor if it's bad? should I try a different relay

Hi,
For starters which type of universal did you put on? There are a couple different kids, i.e start relay/overload and start/relay/cap.
Secondly, did your replace the capacitor? By looking at your model number you might want to check that.
Hope that helps
Nat
