Smile replaced timer; now what?
Model Number: 58642   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

Side by side Kenmore (Amana) frig/freeze just melted the ice one day. Turned it off, cleaned it out, unplugged it for days waiting for a repairman who never came. Did a little research after discovering the defrost timer and how if I turned it, the appliance began to work (including the freezer fan), but eventually would warm up again with no freezer fan (after roughly 8 hours or so). I did notice frost on the coils at be back of the freezer since I could see through the slits. So I replaced the defrost timer (thinking it wasn't going through the heat cycle), cleaned the bottom coils good. Left it off for about 3 hours. Plugged back in, turned it on, and now the freezer fan doesn't seem to come on. What is my next step? I can see the coils inside the freezer are frosting up again. Was I supposed to turn the timer at all after I installed it? I figured it would move itself when it got ready. I was scared I would ruin it if I moved it at all manually. Do I need to take off the inside back panel and get a good look at the freezer coils and the fan? Could the fan be so frozen over that 3 hours wasn't long enough to melt the ice? Should I turn the timer dial thingee to make sure my new part isn't bad? The compressor appears to be working because I hear the noise at the back bottom. I can also tell the back bottom fan is working. The great thing is, I am doing it myself so if I spend $30 or $40 on a part or two I may not need, as long as I eventually fix it, I have saved myself a lot of money I don't have! Any help is very very much appreciated! Thanks.
